At the 2025 edition of the Democracy Heroes Award Africa (DHAA), several prominent Nigerian public figures were honoured for their contributions to governance, democracy and socio-economic development. Among those who bagged awards are Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Governor of Ondo State), Uba Sani (Governor of Kaduna State), Sheriff Oborevwori (Governor of Delta State) and Ned Nwoko (Senator representing Delta North).

Governor Aiyedatiwa was awarded the Most Proactive Governor of the Year in recognition of his administrationโs โpeople-oriented programmesโ and proactive governance approach. Uba Sani was named Best Performing Governor of the Year, credited with extensive infrastructure rollout and inclusive development in Kaduna State. Sheriff Oborevwori picked up the Most Prolific Governor of the Year award for his visible initiatives across Deltaโs sectors. Senator Ned Nwoko was honoured for his legislative leadership and service as part of the wider cohort recognised at the event.
The awards ceremony, held under the theme โLegacy of Leadership: Powering Africaโs Futureโ, was organised by Face of Democracy Nigeria ( FDN ) Projects. Its aim: to spotlight individuals whose leadership, innovation and impact have advanced democratic governance and socio-economic development.

According to presenters, the award-winners were selected following a review of performance across public service, governance, youth empowerment, infrastructure delivery and transparency. The organisers emphasised that this recognition is not just ceremonial but is intended to promote a culture of accountability and excellence among leaders.
In his acceptance remarks, Aiyedatiwa dedicated his award to the people of Ondo State, affirming that the recognition would spur his team to remain focused on service and inclusive growth. Uba Sani likewise dedicated his accolade to the people of Kaduna, noting the governorโs mandate provided the platform for his administrationโs achievements.
For citizens monitoring governance across the states, the recognition of these leaders offers a reflective moment: to assess how campaign promises are translating into tangible outcomes, and how awards like DHAA might influence leadership behaviours and expectations going forward.
