Pop star Davido (born David Adeleke) has been officially appointed as the chairman of the newly-established Osun State Sports Trust Fund by the Osun State government. The move, announced on Wednesday 22 October 2025, marks a strategic step by the state to accelerate the growth of its sports sector through private-sector investment and youth engagement.

In a statement issued by the state government, the appointment is part of a broader plan to reposition Osun’s sports industry, elevate infrastructure and harness the star power of Davido to attract funding and interest in grassroots sport. Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who doubles as Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the development and said Davido accepted the role without hesitation.
The Sports Trust Fund will serve as a dedicated vehicle for sourcing funds from philanthropists, private businesses and sporting enthusiasts both within and beyond Osun State. The aim is to ensure sustainable investment, improved training venues, and wider youth participation in athletics and other disciplines.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration emphasised that this initiative aligns with its vision to make sports a central pillar of youth development and local engagement. One of the immediate infrastructure projects is the rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet international standards—an effort which the new chairman will help oversee in terms of funding and visibility.
Industry watchers say the choice of Davido is significant because of his high profile and existing engagement with youth and culture in Nigeria and beyond. His appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum and visibility to Osun State’s sports agenda.
For now, Davido steps into the role at a critical time for the state’s sports ambitions. The Osun Sports Trust Fund is set to open its funding channels, and the coming months will show how effectively the trust mobilises resources, enhances infrastructure and fosters a sustainable sports ecosystem in Osun State.
