Daniel Etim-Effiong’s “The Herd” Showcases in Europe, North America and the UK

Nollywood is clearly in its global era, and Nigerian filmmakers are no longer asking for a seat at the table, they are creating their own. One of the strongest testaments to this growth is Daniel Etim-Effiong’s critically discussed film, The Herd, which is now heading to major international film and television markets across Europe, North America, and the United Kingdom.

Originally released in Nigerian cinemas in October 2025, The Herd immediately caused intense conversations online and offline. The film struck a nerve by spotlighting pressing national issues such as insecurity, kidnapping, and human trafficking: realities Nigerians see in daily headlines. Its bold storytelling, emotional weight, and unfiltered social commentary made it one of the most talked-about Nollywood movies of its time.

Following its successful cinema run, The Herd expanded its audience when it premiered on Netflix Nigeria in November 2025. The streaming release reignited debates, attracted new viewers, and further amplified calls from Nigerians in the diaspora who wanted to experience the film on bigger screens outside the country.

Those calls are now being answered.

Daniel Etim-Effiong recently shared exciting news via his Instagram page, announcing that The Herd has secured international distribution exposure through some of the world’s most influential film markets. In February 2026, the movie will be exhibited at:

NATPE Miami (North America) — February 4–5

European Film Market (Berlinale, Europe) — February 12–18

MIP London (United Kingdom) — February 22–24

These platforms are pivotal gateways for global film sales, syndication, and international collaborations. For a Nollywood film to be showcased at all three signals not just interest, but confidence in Nigerian storytelling on the world stage.

The Herd also holds special significance as Daniel Etim-Effiong’s directorial debut. The film’s reception earned him recognition as one of Nollywood’s top ten directors of 2025, marking a major career milestone and setting a strong foundation for future projects.

The Herd stands as proof that Nigerian stories when told with authenticity, courage, and craft can travel far beyond local borders.

From Lagos cinemas to Netflix Nigeria and now international markets, The Herd is not just a film; it is a statement that Nollywood is ready, relevant, and truly global.
