Ckay Opens up on Running Away From Home to Chase Music Dreams

Afrobeats sensation CKay has opened up about the life-changing decision to leave his family home in Kaduna at the age of 19 to pursue a career in music in Lagos. Speaking in a candid interview with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, the “Love Nwantiti” star revealed that the move was met with strong opposition from his parents, who were concerned about the uncertainties of a music career.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I had to follow my passion,” CKay said. “Leaving home was scary, but I believed in my sound, and I had a vision of where I wanted to go.”

CKay described the early days in Lagos as challenging, with financial struggles and moments of self-doubt. “There were times I wondered if I had made the right choice,” he admitted. “But every setback pushed me to work harder, to perfect my craft, and to find my own space in the industry.”

Today, CKay is celebrated internationally, with hits that have topped charts and earned him recognition from fans around the world. Reflecting on his journey, he said the decision to leave home at a young age was a defining moment that shaped both his career and his character.

“Sometimes you have to take risks that others don’t understand,” he advised. “If you truly believe in what you’re doing, it’s worth the struggle.”
