The premiere of Onobiren brought together some of Nollywood’s brightest stars, filmmakers and media personalities, but one appearance that caught attention was that of media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo. Known widely as the host of #WithChude, Jideonwo attended the event not just to support filmmaker Laju Iren, but as part of the film’s cast, marking his first appearance in a cinema-released movie.

In a sea of glamorous red-carpet fashion, he stepped onto the carpet in a regal traditional ensemble that leaned into the evening’s cultural dress code while standing apart from his usual understated style. Styled by Nengis_clothiers
The film, written and executive produced by Laju Iren, explores themes of faith, identity and womanhood and features a cast including Patience Ozokwo, Deyemi Okanlawon, Ruby Akubueze and Bisola Aiyeola. While Onobiren marks Jideonwo’s first appearance in a cinema feature, it is not his first time on screen; he previously made a cameo in the thriller SIN, produced by Jim Iyke.
For more than two decades, Jideonwo has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most influential media storytellers, producing documentaries and hosting powerful conversations across culture, politics and faith. His appearance in Onobiren, though brief, marks a notable milestone, the interviewer stepping into the story himself, and making his first appearance in a theatrical Nollywood film.

For someone who has spent years creating platforms for other people’s stories, stepping onto the cinema screen feels like a natural evolution.
And if the premiere was anything to go by, he made that debut in style.
