Nollywood actress and film-producer Chioma Ifemeludike has formally declared her bid for the governorship of Anambra State in the upcoming election scheduled for November 8, 2025. She is running under the banner of the African Action Congress (AAC), positioning herself as a fresh face in the state’s political landscape. 

Ifemeludike, originally from Eziowele in the Idemili North Local Government Area, emerged as validated AAC candidate during the party’s endorsement process.  In her announcement she expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, women’s advancement, and infrastructural development in Anambra State. 

Campaign Promises and Early Reactions

Speaking at a press meet-and-greet, Ifemeludike laid out several key commitments. These include plans to increase the minimum wage in Anambra State to ₦100,000 and overhaul education quality across the region.  She argued that her entertainment-industry background gives her unique insight into creativity and youth potential, which can translate into new governance approaches for the state.

Her announcement has sparked mixed responses on social media and in political circles. Supporters praised the move as a bold step for women in politics and a sign of generational change. One online comment read, “She means business! I love her confidence.”  Meanwhile, some observers questioned how her entertainment career experience would translate into the complexities of governing a state.

Incumbent governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) remains a strong contender and will likely be a central figure in the race alongside Ifemeludike. Her campaign must now build momentum, establish grassroots networks, and engage with traditional political structures to stand a viable chance.

Ifemeludike’s run represents a notable crossroads between celebrity, activism and politics in Nigeria. As the election draws nearer, the campaign will test whether her vision for Anambra resonates with voters hungry for new leadership and opportunity.
