Plans for the burial of the late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, have been temporarily suspended due to unresolved family issues. The announcement was made by gospel artist Lanre Alewilese via Instagram on Saturday.

Alewilese explained that all arrangements previously made by the burial planning committee have been put on hold. He noted that the decision was necessary because of concerns arising within the singer’s family and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the public.

“This is to inform everyone that all plans for the burial of our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, have been cancelled,” Alewilese wrote. “This decision was taken due to some issues within her family. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.”

Before the suspension, several burial activities were scheduled in Lagos. These included a service of songs, candlelight procession, and tribute night on Tuesday, January 20, at LTV 8 Ground in Ikeja, followed by a private interment for family and close associates on Wednesday, January 21.

In a follow-up video delivered in Yoruba, Alewilese clarified that the suspension was not his personal decision, but a collective one reached by the family and the burial committee. He said he was tasked with informing the public that the previously scheduled programmes are now on hold.

“The Tuesday and Wednesday programmes at LTV 8 are on hold for now. The family will provide updates once a decision has been made,” he stated.

Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital. Her death was announced by fellow gospel singer Ayo Melody on Instagram, on behalf of the family.

Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, fondly known as Omije Ojumi after her popular gospel song, began her musical journey at a young age before leaving her banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. In October 2025, a video circulated online showing her receiving prayers at G.F. David Ministries, Ibadan, over an undisclosed illness, though no official link between the ailment and her death has been confirmed.

The family is expected to announce new burial arrangements once they have resolved internal matters. Fans and well-wishers are advised to await further communication.
