Buhari Transfers National Identity Management Commission to the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy

 

President Muhammadu Buhari has transferred the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

This was stated in a statement signed by the spokesman to the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman. The statement further stated that the President’s transfer was based on the objective of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy also stated its hopes that the transfer would coordinate, monitor and track the progress of Federal Government’s digital transformation initiatives.

Mallam Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has been able to transform the ICT sector in the country, with reformations that cut across regularization of improperly registered SIM cards, deactivation of unregistered ones and the deployment of a lot of digital projects across the country, the statement confirms.

The Commission therefore hopes to work closely with the NIMC under the supervision of one ministry so as to provide digital access to the National Identification Number.
