In his remarks, Founder and Executive Director Taiwo Oduala described Mogaji as “an icon of African cinema whose work has inspired generations across the globe.” He added that the award placed her “a pride not only to Nigeria but Africa as a whole.”

Binta Ayo-Mogaji’s career spans decades, with hundreds of film, television and theatre credits to her name. Her recognition at the Afro Awards marks a milestone in her long-standing contribution to Nigerian entertainment and cultural representation.

Cultural Impact and Recognition

The ceremony featured surprise performances, cross-continental networking, and a celebration of Afro-centric excellence. Organisers said the event’s mission is to empower individuals from all walks of life, educate communities and enable young people to become catalysts for change.

For Mogaji, the award underscores both her artistic legacy and her role in elevating indigenous storytelling. It also highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in global cultural spaces as Nollywood stars receive attention not only locally, but on international platforms recognising cultural and humanitarian achievement.

With this recognition, the veteran actress enters a new phase of celebration, one that honours her sustained relevance, creative resilience and ability to connect with audiences across generations. The award adds to her already distinguished portfolio and positions her as a global ambassador for African cinema.
