Released nationwide on December 12, 2025, Behind The Scenes became the fastest Nollywood film to reach major revenue milestones. It crossed ₦500 million within its first two weeks, topped weekend charts early in its run, and went on to shatter multiple records including the highest single-day gross in Nollywood history on Boxing Day.

Behind the scenes, the success of the project has been attributed to a combination of strategic distribution, consistent branding, and Funke Akindele’s deep understanding of her audience. The film is distributed by Funke Akindele Network, FilmOne Entertainment, and FAAN, a collaboration that ensured wide cinema coverage and sustained visibility across major cities.

The film’s success was further recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria, with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) publicly congratulating Akindele and describing the achievement as “a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry” and a sign of growing global interest in Nigerian storytelling.

Cinema operators in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Accra, and other commercial hubs have reported steady ticket sales since the film’s debut. The movie’s strong opening weekend quickly set the pace, and rather than slowing down, attendance has remained consistent, pushing the film past the ₦2.4 billion mark.

Behind The Scenes follows the story of Adetutu “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur who faces emotional pressure and family expectations that challenge her personal strength and resilience. Directed by Akindele alongside Tunde Olaoye, the film blends heartfelt themes with strong performances from a star-studded cast including Scarlet Gomez, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie and Destiny Etiko.

The cultural appeal of the film resonated with audiences in Nigeria and beyond, helping it surpass expectations at the box office. FilmOne Entertainment, the official distributor, confirmed that the title grossed more than ₦2.1 billion, a figure that now stands as the top-earning total in Nollywood history. The company also noted that the film enjoyed strong admissions and repeated viewings in cinemas across West Africa.

Behind-the-scenes footage and production stills released alongside the box office announcement have also generated renewed interest online. Fans have shared clips, interviews, and set moments that highlight the scale of production and teamwork involved. Social media reactions have largely celebrated the film as another example of Funke Akindele’s ability to blend entertainment with mass appeal.

The new milestone adds to Funke Akindele’s already impressive list of achievements at the box office. She has now become the first filmmaker to hold the number-one spot at the African box office for three consecutive years, a streak that includes previous blockbuster hits such as Everybody Loves Jenifa and A Tribe Called Judah.

Industry observers note that the ₦2.407 billion figure represents more than individual success. It signals growing confidence in West African cinema and highlights the potential for local films to compete strongly within the regional market when supported by effective distribution and marketing strategies.

The film’s continued performance has also provided a boost for cinemas, many of which are still navigating economic pressures and changing viewing habits. With audiences returning consistently, stakeholders see the project as a positive indicator for the sustainability of theatrical releases in the region.

As the movie continues screening nationwide, box office figures are expected to climb further. For Funke Akindele, the achievement reinforces her position not just as a celebrated actress and producer, but as a key force driving the commercial evolution of Nollywood and West African cinema at large.
