Veteran Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has raised serious allegations about financial improprieties within the Nollywood industry.
In an interview with Arise TV, Basketmouth claimed that many Nollywood producers receive substantial funding from streaming platforms but allocate only a fraction—approximately 10%—toward actual movie production.

The comedian further alleged that when streaming platforms bypass producers to pay actors directly, some producers pressure the actors into handing over a portion of their earnings.

Without naming specific individuals, Basketmouth remarked, “They know themselves, but I won’t mention names. When these streaming platforms came in, there was a lot of money.Unfortunately, more than 70 percent of producers used only 10 percent of those funds to make the movies.
”These revelations follow reports that Netflix, an international streaming giant, has ceased funding Nigerian filmmakers for original content.
