#AMVCA2016: OSG Predictions for Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series)

As we countdown to the 2016 edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), #OSG weighs in on who will win in each category of Africa’s biggest award show.

To help guide #OSG readers to what films and performances are taking the lead in each race, l will be providing my updated predictions for who or what will win on March 5.

We start with Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series)
This is one of the most competitive categories that see Funke Akindele go head-to-head with sultry actress, Ini Edo. Joining them in this category are Lepaciois Bose, Abimbola Craig and American-Ghanaian Nana Mensah.

Funke Akindele was always going to be among the nominee. Her brilliant character interpretation in Jenifa’s Diary has won her more fans across the globe. If that was the only criteria used in winning the AMVCA, am sure the award would have been given to her by now.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Pundits would argue the TV series has not matched up with her award winning movie of the same name. This leaves the category open for other contenders. To me, this category is far from a done deal as Ini Edo’s performance in ‘Desperate House Girls‘ is a much stronger contender for the award. Not overlooking Abimbola Craig’s effortlessly performance in ‘Skinny Girl in Transit‘ as well. Her acting prowess landed the web series in the big league, but am afraid that’s where it ends.

The other two nominees, Lepacious Bose (“Being Mrs Elliot“) and Nana Mensah (“An African City“) are also strong contenders for their outstanding performances, but unfortunately there can only be one winner. Though many have pegged ‘Jenifa’s Diary’as the category’s ultimate victor. For now, it’s anyone’s guess.

Below is my take on how things might shake down in the race for Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series).

Nominees:

Nana Mensah (“An African City”)

Lepacious Bose (“Being Mrs Elliot”)

Ini Edo (“Desperate House Girls”)

Funke Akindele (“Jenifa’s Diary”)

Abimbola Craig (“Skinny Girl in Transit”)

Predicted Winner: Funke Akindele

Potential Spoiler: Ini Edo
