Grace Charis Bassey, who was once known as Belinda Effah in Nollywood, has recounted the amazing story of how she joined the U.S. Navy after performing in Nigerian cinema.
The 33-year-old actress said on Instagram that she is now a U.S. citizen after completing her boot camp in the U.S. Navy.
Recognising the difficult journey to get there, she shared a picture of herself in her Navy uniform and thanked God, her family, and her supporters from the bottom of her heart.
In her words:
โLast week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States. Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever. Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning. In Honor of my Late Father โ Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.โ

Fans who recall her name change from Belinda to Grace in 2021 were especially affected by her update.
Grace Bassey revealed in a prior interview with The PUNCH that she felt God granted her a new name after having a spiritual awakening.
She said:
โBelinda literally means โbeautiful serpent.โโ
Also, she further explained:
โGod changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter.โ
She said that the name change was a component of a rebranding initiative to better fit with a higher purpose.
She assured her supporters that her essential identity and ideals would not change even though she had changed her name.
