Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, who represents the Benue South senatorial district, is in a deep state of mourning after the deaths of his son and his grandson in the space of just 48 hours.

According to reports, his son named Victor Moro had recently returned to Nigeria after completing his studies in Turkey and was preparing to begin his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. Tragically, he was involved in a fatal motor accident along the Mararaba axis in Nasarawa State.
The grandson, identified in some reports as Aba Moro Jr., died only a short time earlier under circumstances not yet fully detailed. The two losses occurred within a 48-hour window, intensifying the grief.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, in a statement issued via his Chief Press Secretary, described the double tragedy as “painful and devastating”. He urged Senator Moro, the family, and the people of Benue South to find strength and accept that life is subject to change.
Former Governor Samuel Ortom also expressed deep sympathy, calling the incident “a heartbreaking and double bereavement that words could hardly express.”
While the exact details of the grandson’s death remain unclear in publicly available reports, the son’s accident has drawn attention to the perils faced when bright young Nigerians return home after studying abroad. Victor’s planned service in the NYSC would have marked a promising new chapter.
The news has sparked an outpouring of condolences across social media and among political leaders. Many highlight the shock and depth of sorrow in a family facing two sudden losses so close together.
As the family navigates this difficult period, it is a moment of collective reflection for the wider community in Benue and Nigeria, underscoring how sudden tragedies can touch even prominent families and public servants.
