The House of Representatives is reportedly considering inviting the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) over some of his recent comments.
Police AIG, Zone II Command, Joseph Mbu said earlier last week that he had ordered his met to retaliate if met with violence. He said at the Ogun state Police Command Headquarters that for every policeman killed, 20 civilians should be killed in their place.
His exact words were said to be; “If one of my men is killed, I shall kill 20 of them, but don’t shoot first. If they shoot you, shoot back in self-defence. Anybody who fires you, fire him back in self-defence.
“If hoodlums or touts decide to be lawless, carrying knives, carrying illegal firearms and shooting at my policemen, if they shoot at my policemen and they are a hundred or 200, my policemen will not be looking at them. They will reply back in self-defence”
Ali Madaki, a member of the House, asked the House to condemn Mbu’s utterances and suggested that Mbu take no part in the forthcoming general elections.
AIG Joseph Mbu is not a stranger to controversy, having garnered some notoriety as Commissioner of Police in Rivers state.
However, the House of Reps remain divided as to what to do about Joseph Mbu as some members of the house vehemently opposed Ali Madaki’s motion.
