Iyanya, to a lot of us, hasn’t been all that in recent times; and it’s only natural seeing as no one will remain in that pole position forever. But this new record looks like a reanimation of sorts, a fuel into the engines of languid spirits and a major silencer to critiques.
Maleek Berry knows his business, he makes us something pleasing and dance-inducing on ‘Finito’, with the perfect studio magic for Iyanya to steer the vessel once more. Laudable. I believe if the Singer wants to stay in the lead as he once did, it’d be best to orchestrate well-crafted pieces like this, and not some hasty buzz-hungry mediocre records. Just a thought.
Nothing of specific interest on this from the subject matter-theme angle of things, other than it is a party number. In all though, it is stuff the clubs and late night frenzies can use. The festivities are almost upon us like the foggy cold mornings that signal the close of year, and it’d be a thrill to see that once more our Jockeys can spin for hours into the early mornings without having to leave the ambits of our local music. Supers solid stuff, a heavy interesting body of works from our Artistes today that should thrill many a true Fan and pundit.
‘Finito’ is a catchy one, the production and sounds hybridize Afrobeats and guitar strings complementarily so that this is a hit on first listen. There isn’t much one can say again about this other than it is a hit. Finito is a hit; a timely, buzzing material that fits in a seamless fashion with pop culture dictates of today. Banging stuff!
Listen and rate, a Hit or a Miss?
