Tacha urges BBNaija organisers to rethink show amid social media boom

Tacha Akide, the reality TV star, has urged organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to take a break and re-strategise, saying social media has changed how Nigerians consume entertainment.

Akide made the call during an interview on Arise TV. She said the show needs fresh ideas to keep viewers interested.

“I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something because we are really in an era where everything happens on social media,” she said.

Tacha highlights social media’s influence

The reality star said social media now offers audiences instant access to celebrity news, controversies and trending conversations. She argued that these developments compete with the drama inside the BBNaija house.

“You don’t want us watching housemates in the house, meanwhile P-Square is giving us part seven of his family issues… we have come to a point where everyone is so comfortable with social media right now.”

Akide also noted that the entertainment landscape has changed since BBNaija first gained widespread attention. According to her, the organisers must recognise these changes and adjust the show’s format.

“At the time when the show was really hitting, it was different, and now it’s different. Social media wasn’t what it was then,” she said.

Tacha calls for fresh ideas

Akide urged the organisers to introduce more exciting concepts that would capture viewers’ attention. She said Nigerians now have different entertainment options and can be difficult to please.

“They need to try to do something different which would be much more mind-blowing and more interesting to Nigerians because Nigerians are hard to please.”

Tacha’s career after BBNaija

Akide rose to prominence during the 2019 edition of BBNaija. However, organisers disqualified her for physical aggression towards fellow housemate Mercy Eke.

Since leaving the show, she has pursued opportunities in entertainment and fashion. She also worked as a radio host at Cool FM.

In 2025, Akide ventured into sports by launching Tacha FC, a football club.
