Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery on a torn ACL, likely ending his season, while Ousmane Dembele faces several weeks out with a thigh injury.
PSG confirmed the injuries on Wednesday, a day after their 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona. The win came at a high cost for the European champions, who also lost defender Marquinhos to a thigh problem.
Kvaratskhelia faces a lengthy absence
Kvaratskhelia twisted his right knee during Tuesday’s match. The Georgian winger left the pitch shortly before the hour mark and needed help to walk off. He could not put weight on his injured leg.
The 25-year-old played a key role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists as the French side defended their European crown. His performances also earned him a place on the shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
An ACL injury typically requires at least six months of recovery. Kvaratskhelia could therefore miss the rest of the season, dealing a major blow to PSG’s bid for a third consecutive Champions League title.
The club currently lead this season’s standings with three wins from three matches.
Dembele, Marquinhos also injured
Dembele limped off in the 19th minute against Barcelona with a thigh injury. The France international had started the season strongly, recording four goals and six assists across all competitions.
Marquinhos also left the game with a similar problem, adding to PSG’s injury concerns.
The club said Dembele and Marquinhos would continue treatment over the next few weeks.
PSG prepare for Lyon clash
Luis Enrique’s side must now manage their injury problems as they pursue domestic and European honours.
