Elon Musk Plans to Give SpaceX Shares to Every Child in America

Elon Musk says he plans to give SpaceX shares to every child in America next year, announcing the pledge Monday. The billionaire shared the proposal on X, adding that the giveaway would mark the first of many initiatives to come.

Musk did not explain how he would distribute the shares, identify eligible children, or arrange transfers to millions of recipients. Reports estimate the pledge could cover approximately 73 million American children, depending on how Musk defines the word “kid” nationwide.

At SpaceX’s closing price of about 146 dollars per share, the proposed distribution could be worth roughly 10.6 billion dollars. That estimate reflects the shares’ market value, not a confirmed cash payment or a finalized charitable programme with delivery plans.

Musk’s announcement followed artificial intelligence company Anthropic’s decision to commit five percent of its shares to a public benefit fund. Responding to Anthropic’s announcement, Musk argued that companies should give shares to the public instead of placing them in funds.

His post outlined his approach, promising one SpaceX share for every American child beginning next year in the United States. However, the pledge currently lacks published eligibility rules, transfer arrangements, and a detailed public timetable for distributing shares to families.

Neither the announcement nor early reporting has yet established whether children would receive shares through custodial accounts or another mechanism. SpaceX shares began trading publicly this year, making the proposed giveaway possible to value using the company’s current market price.

Even so, transferring shares to millions of minors could require substantial legal, administrative, and account-management arrangements before distribution begins nationwide. Musk described the plan as the first of many, but he has not yet announced any further initiatives to the public.
