Akor Adams ends goal drought in spectacular fashion as the Nigerian striker fires Venezia to a crucial 1-0 victory over Napoli in Serie A. Super Eagles forward Akor Adams scored the decisive goal on Saturday, October 17, 2026, ending his four-game scoring drought and securing Venezia’s first league victory of the season.
The 26-year-old striker broke the deadlock in the 49th minute at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo after receiving a long pass from Simon Sohm. Adams used his strength to hold off Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani before cutting inside and firing towards goal.
His effort took a deflection off the defender, wrong-footing goalkeeper Alex Meret and finding the net. The goal marked Adams’ second league strike of the campaign and his fourth goal across all competitions since joining Venezia from Sevilla during the summer.
Venezia entered the encounter under pressure after losing their opening six league matches. However, their victory over Napoli provided a much-needed boost under new manager Davide Nicola.
Napoli pushed hard for an equaliser after introducing Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Højlund. Nevertheless, goalkeeper Filip Stankovic produced an impressive performance, making nine saves to preserve Venezia’s narrow advantage.
De Bruyne also missed a penalty in the 68th minute, giving the hosts another major breakthrough in their fight for three points. The result lifted Venezia’s confidence after a difficult start to the campaign, while Napoli missed an opportunity to move closer to the Serie A top four.
