Wizkid’s Long Live Lagos Documentary Submitted for Grammy Consideration

Wizkid’s Long Live Lagos documentary has been submitted for Grammy consideration in the Best Music Film category, drawing fresh attention. The submission marks another milestone for the Nigerian superstar, whose career has helped bring Afrobeats to audiences across the world.

Directed by filmmaker Karam Gill, the HBO Documentary Films production follows Wizkid’s journey from Lagos to international recognition and influence. The film builds toward his landmark performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, where he headlined a concert in 2023.

Long Live Lagos explores the singer’s journey while examining Afrobeats’ global rise and music’s influence on African identity and representation. Contributors include Femi Kuti, Jada Pollock, Julie Adenuga, and other voices who discuss Wizkid’s impact on music and culture today.

The documentary first premiered at the Tribeca Festival in 2025, introducing audiences to its portrait of the artist and Lagos. Now, the Grammy consideration submission could bring the project additional visibility among music-film audiences and industry professionals around the world.

However, submission for Grammy consideration does not mean the documentary has secured a nomination or will win an award yet. Grammy voters must evaluate eligible entries before the Recording Academy announces nominees for the relevant category during its awards process.

With Long Live Lagos under consideration, Wizkid’s story continues reaching audiences beyond music, connecting his rise with Lagos and Afrobeats’ journey.
