Vinicius Jr four-game suspension will rule the Real Madrid forward out of the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona on October 25. The Spanish Football Federation announced the punishment Wednesday after reviewing his red card during Real Madrid’s recent victory over Villarreal.
Vinicius received a straight red card after pulling defender Nathan Saliba’s hair during an incident that followed a disallowed goal. Video assistant referee review identified the hair-pulling, prompting the referee to cancel Vinicius’s apparent goal and send him off immediately.
The disciplinary committee imposed two matches for violent conduct and added two more for his protests against the referee afterward. Consequently, Vinicius Jr four-game suspension covers La Liga fixtures against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing Santander, and Valencia over the coming weeks.
His absence from El Clasico represents a setback for Real Madrid, who must face their fiercest rivals without an attacker. Barcelona will host the October 25 showdown while leading the league, adding pressure on Madrid ahead of the high-profile encounter.
Vinicius has featured regularly this season, and coach Jose Mourinho must consider alternatives to replace the Brazilian winger in attack. The forward later apologised to Real Madrid teammates and supporters on social media following the controversial dismissal against Villarreal publicly.
His suspension applies to domestic league matches, meaning he can still represent Madrid in Champions League fixtures during this period. Real Madrid secured a 1–0 victory over Villarreal, but the disciplinary fallout now dominates discussion ahead of El Clasico today.
The four-game ban combines punishment for the hair-pulling offence with an additional sanction for his reaction toward match officials afterward. Vinicius Jr four-game suspension reshapes the buildup to El Clasico, leaving Madrid to prepare for a crucial match without him.
