John Boyega, the Nigerian-British actor, has welcomed his first child with Lashontae Heckard, his wife, nearly two years after the couple secretly tied the knot.
The 34-year-old actor announced the birth in a recent Instagram post, sharing loved-up photos of himself and Heckard, with her baby bump visible, alongside another image of him cradling their baby.
Boyega said their bundle of joy had arrived “some time ago” as he thanked those who had sent the couple well wishes. He also revealed that his sister was expecting a baby soon and asked fans to wish her well.
“Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now, but thank you for all the well wishes. Also, my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too. Back to feeding this big baby,” he wrote.
The announcement comes after Boyega disclosed in a recent interview with The Guardian that he had been married to Heckard for almost two years.
The actor said they exchanged vows in a “small ceremony” but hoped to hold a traditional Nigerian wedding celebration in the future.
“I would love to have a wedding celebration. We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry. And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down,” he said.
Boyega also revealed that he has a stepson, describing his family life as “completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family”.
Heckard, reportedly 48, is an actress and model best known for her role in the BET series ‘The Game’, which stars Tia Mowry and Hosea Chanchez.
The show follows a group of women whose lives revolve around their relationships with professional football players.
