Cristiano Ronaldo waves Saudi scarf after security delay, drawing attention following Al-Nassr’s 3–1 victory over Neftchi Fergana in Riyadh Monday. The AFC Champions League Elite fixture began about an hour late after Saudi Civil Defence issued a security warning locally.
Players waited inside their dressing rooms while spectators remained in the stadium as authorities assessed the situation before kickoff. The warning followed missile threats targeting Riyadh, amid escalating regional tensions and recent attacks affecting Saudi Arabia’s capital city.
After authorities declared the immediate danger had passed, officials allowed the match to proceed at Al-Awwal Park stadium. Angelo Gabriel opened the scoring before Ronaldo doubled Al-Nassr’s lead in the 42nd minute with a powerful finish.
Neftchi reduced the deficit through Alisher Odilov, but an own goal later helped Al-Nassr secure its important victory. Following the final whistle, Ronaldo joined teammates in acknowledging supporters before a fan handed him a green Saudi scarf.
The Portuguese forward waved the scarf and draped it around his neck, creating one of the evening’s most memorable moments. His gesture attracted attention online, especially because the match had unfolded against the backdrop of serious security concerns.
Ronaldo also kissed the Saudi national emblem on his shirt before kickoff, expressing a visible connection with his adopted football home. The victory gave Al-Nassr three important points, while Ronaldo’s goal moved his remarkable career tally to 981 official goals.
Supporters praised his performance and scarf gesture, although the security delay remained a significant part of the evening’s wider story.
