Lazio join Inter at the top as Juventus, Milan, Roma held

Lazio moved level with Serie A leaders Inter Milan after beating Monza 3-1 on Sunday. Juventus, AC Milan and AS Roma all dropped points as they settled for draws against Cagliari, Sassuolo and Como.

Inter lead the standings with 16 points after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Parma. Lazio have the same points tally, while Roma sit third with 14. Cagliari are fourth on 13 points, followed by Milan on 12. Juventus and Como have 11 points each.

Lazio beat 10-man Monza

Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio took an early lead at the Stadio Olimpico. Nuno Tavares fired into the roof of the net in the third minute.

Gustav Isaksen doubled the lead midway through the first half. He found the far bottom corner with a first-time shot from a tight angle.

Monza’s task became harder when Lorenzo Lucchesi received a red card 10 minutes before the break. However, the visitors scored early in the second half. Saba Goglichidze headed home after Dany Mota flicked on a corner.

Mota came close to an equaliser twice, but goalkeeper Christos Mandas kept him out. Andrea Pinamonti then sealed Lazio’s win with a strike from the edge of the six-yard box two minutes from time.

“We can’t afford to play as we did in the second half,” Gattuso told DAZN.

“We shouldn’t be trying to manage the game. We need to keep doing things the right way.”

Juventus, Milan and Roma held

Cagliari looked set for another win after Daniel Maldini put them ahead against Juventus in the 20th minute. However, substitute Kerim Alajbegovic crossed for Randal Kolo Muani to equalise nine minutes from time. It was the striker’s first league goal of the season.

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti and Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane both received red cards after a verbal clash at the final whistle.

Milan also missed the chance to close the gap on the leaders. Luka Modric set up Adrien Rabiot, who scored from a tight angle in the 63rd minute. Cas Odenthal levelled five minutes later after a corner.

The draw kept Milan unbeaten this season, but they lost ground on Inter and Lazio.
