Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Portugal camp after discussions with federation president Pedro Proença, following Jorge Jesus’s latest national team press conference. Ronaldo announced his departure Wednesday, saying he would eventually explain the reasons behind leaving Portugal, whom he has always served.
The decision came before Portugal’s Nations League meeting with Denmark, adding uncertainty around the captain’s involvement with the national team. Earlier, Ronaldo remained unused during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway, despite starting their previous match against Wales recently.
That decision reportedly increased tensions after Ronaldo warmed up but stayed on the bench throughout Portugal’s victory in Oslo there. Jorge Jesus later explained that match circumstances influenced his decision, while reports described frustration surrounding Ronaldo’s reduced involvement under Jesus.
Portugal’s new coach had previously said Ronaldo would remain part of his plans, while emphasizing performance would determine selection decisions. However, Ronaldo’s absence from recent team training added further attention before his eventual announcement about leaving the Portugal camp again.

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo ended his statement by wishing Portugal and teammate good luck without exception during Nations League campaign.
