Zahara, daughter of Hollywood actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has become the third of their six children to drop Pitt from her legal name and keep Jolie.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge approved the 21-year-old’s name-change request during a hearing on Monday, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Zahara will now go by Zahara Marley Jolie instead of Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt.
Zahara had already been using Jolie
Zahara filed her petition in June. The court approved it after no one objected. However, the petition did not give a reason for the change.
The 21-year-old had already started using Jolie publicly.
When she graduated from Spelman College in May, the institution introduced her as Zahara Marley Jolie.
She also introduced herself without Pitt’s surname in 2023. That was when she joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority while studying at Spelman.
Her legal name change now makes the decision official.
She follows Maddox and Shiloh
Zahara is the third child of Pitt and Jolie to formally drop the Pitt surname.
Earlier this month, a judge approved her brother Maddox’s request to change his name to Maddox Jolie.
Shiloh also legally removed ‘Pitt’ from her name in 2024.
Vivienne, the youngest daughter of the former couple, has also taken steps to do the same. She filed a petition to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Her hearing will take place in November.
Pitt and Jolie’s family
Pitt, 62, and Jolie, 51, met in 2004 while starring in ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’.
Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston at the time. He and Aniston announced their separation in January 2005. By April, Pitt and Jolie had confirmed their relationship after photographers captured them on holiday together.
Pitt adopted Maddox and Zahara in 2006, giving them the surname Jolie-Pitt. That same year, the couple welcomed Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, their first biological child.
They adopted Pax from a Vietnamese orphanage in 2007. Jolie later gave birth to twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline in France in 2008.
The couple got engaged in 2012 and married in 2014. They separated in 2016 after an altercation on a private jet.
