Nneka Ogwumike 8,000 points milestone has arrived, making her the fourth player in WNBA history to reach that scoring mark. The Los Angeles Sparks star reached the landmark during Sunday’s 105-84 victory over Portland Fire at Crypto Arena in Los Angeles.
Ogwumike finished the game with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, delivering another strong performance during her milestone night. Her achievement places Ogwumike alongside Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles and DeWanna Bonner among the league’s exclusive 8,000-point scoring club today.
Taurasi currently leads the group with 10,646 points, while Charles has 8,396 and Bonner owns 8,217 career points overall today. Meanwhile, Ogwumike moved to 8,013 career points after her latest performance, continuing a remarkable scoring career spanning multiple WNBA seasons.
The 2016 WNBA MVP has also recorded 18 double-doubles this season, marking her highest single-season total in that category yet. During Sunday’s contest, Los Angeles controlled the game after halftime and pulled away behind strong shooting and balanced offensive contributions.
Rae Burrell matched Ogwumike’s 20 points, while Ariel Atkins contributed 14 points and Chance Gray added 11 for Los Angeles. Portland struggled to keep pace as Carla Leite led the Fire with 23 points, while several teammates added double-digit contributions.
