Raheem Sterling reckless driving case could result in a prison sentence after the former England international pleaded guilty to multiple offences. Sterling admitted dangerous driving, possessing nitrous oxide, and failing to provide a specimen during proceedings at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.
The 31-year-old faced charges following an incident involving his Lamborghini on several roads across Hampshire earlier this year. Prosecutors alleged that Sterling drove dangerously across the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road during the incident.
Dashcam footage reportedly captured the vehicle swerving between lanes before eventually crashing near the Minley interchange in Hampshire. Witnesses also reported seeing Sterling inhaling nitrous oxide balloons while driving during the morning rush-hour period.
Police officers subsequently found two nitrous oxide canisters on Sterling’s lap when they arrived at the crash scene. Testing reportedly detected no cannabis or cocaine, although Sterling refused to provide a blood sample following impairment tests.
The court later disqualified Sterling from driving and released him on unconditional bail until his next hearing. Sterling’s defence acknowledged the seriousness of the offences while presenting personal mitigation and steps taken following the incident.
Prosecutors indicated that Sterling could face a sentence between 12 and 18 months, although magistrates will determine the outcome.
A pre-sentence report will now help the court decide the appropriate punishment when Sterling returns for sentencing.
The court could impose a suspended sentence instead, depending on the circumstances considered during the upcoming hearing. Raheem Sterling reckless driving case remains unresolved, with the final sentence expected after the November court proceedings.
