The Ed Sheeran Loop Tour faces further disruption after all remaining opening acts and his touring band withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Irish band Beoga announced departures following Macklemore’s removal from upcoming tour performances.
Macklemore lost his remaining opening slots after making pro-Palestinian comments during a recent performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Following the announcement, the artists said they could not continue participating while Macklemore faced consequences for expressing support for Palestine. Finneas said artists should not face silencing when they speak about oppressed people, while confirming his withdrawal from upcoming dates.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rowe referenced Ireland’s history of occupation and explained his decision to leave the tour alongside Macklemore. Lukas Graham also announced his departure, saying friendship with Sheeran remained intact despite disagreements surrounding the ongoing controversy. Beoga, which performs alongside Sheeran during his sets, also confirmed it would leave the remaining United States dates.
Ed Sheeran said removing Macklemore was the promoter’s decision after venues communicated that they could cancel upcoming shows. The singer explained that he had spoken with venues and promoters while attempting to find a resolution before their decision became final.
However, the Ed Sheeran Loop Tour now lacks its previously announced opening acts for several remaining performances. The tour remains scheduled to continue with North American dates before moving to South America later this year.
These developments have intensified debate surrounding artistic expression, political statements, venue pressure and responsibilities within major touring productions.
