Apple Set to Launch $2,000 Foldable iPhone Duo as New CEO Takes Charge

Apple is set to unveil its $2,000 foldable iPhone Duo on Wednesday as the company hosts a major product event in Cupertino, California, with new CEO John Ternus also preparing to make his first appearance in the role.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. local time. Apple is expected to showcase the iPhone 18 Pro, new Apple Watch models and updated AirPods. However, the foldable iPhone will likely take centre stage.

Apple Bets on a $2,000 Foldable iPhone

Apple plans to position the iPhone Duo as a premium device and a potential status symbol. The phone will reportedly start at $2,000 for the 256GB model.

Higher-capacity versions could cost close to $3,000. Apple faced higher production costs because of the ongoing memory-chip shortage. The company will absorb some of those costs on the entry-level model while passing more of them to buyers who choose larger storage options.

The Duo will feature a short-and-wide design. This design should make the phone suitable for watching videos when unfolded.

Apple will also equip the device with its A20 Pro chip and C2 modem. The phone will support side-by-side apps and iPad-like multitasking.

The camera system will include two 48-megapixel rear cameras and a 12-megapixel camera for videoconferencing. Apple will also add a magnetic hinge system and Apple Pencil support.

The company could begin selling the iPhone Duo as early as October. It is expected to come in white and dark blue.

iPhone 18 Pro Gets Camera Upgrades

Apple will also introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The phones will keep a design similar to last year’s models.

However, Apple plans several important technology upgrades. The larger Pro model will reportedly gain a mechanical aperture. This feature should give users better control over depth of field and improve low-light photography.

Both models will also use the A20 Pro chip and offer longer battery life. A redesigned vapour chamber should help control heat during demanding tasks.

Apple will also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island. The updated system will allow users to manage three live activities at the top of the screen at once.

New Apple Watch and AirPods

Apple will introduce the Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 with new colours and changes to their cases and bands. The Series 12 could also bring back a ceramic case, while the Ultra 4 should offer better battery life.

Health and fitness will remain a major focus. Apple plans to introduce a new Readiness app that will use data from the watch’s sensors to provide deeper insights.

The company will also launch a new low-end AirPods 5 model. The earbuds will offer improved noise cancellation.

Ternus Faces His First Major Test

The event will also introduce Ternus as Apple’s new CEO. He took over from Tim Cook on September 1, while Cook moved into the role of executive chairman.

Ternus now faces the challenge of maintaining Apple’s strong financial performance while expanding into new product categories.
