Kylian Mbappe says he would vote for himself in the Ballon d’Or race, defending his chances of winning the prize. The Real Madrid forward made the statement during an interview with France Football ahead of the ceremony.
Mbappe believes individual performances should carry significant weight when voters consider the award. He pointed to his 2026 World Cup campaign as evidence supporting his candidacy.
The French captain finished the tournament as its leading scorer and claimed the Golden Boot. Mbappe also highlighted his record-breaking achievements on football’s biggest stages. He argued that becoming the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer strengthens his case for recognition.
His comments arrive after a season without major team trophies for Real Madrid or France. However, Mbappe insists individual excellence remains important when assessing Ballon d’Or contenders. “I’d vote for myself,” Mbappe said when asked about his preferred choice. He added that history should receive recognition when exceptional performances create new milestones.
The Ballon d’Or race features strong contenders this year. Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Paris Saint-Germain stars also remain prominent names. Mbappe understands that voters may reach different conclusions about the award. He stressed that his confidence does not mean other players lack legitimate arguments.
