Pete Edochie has named Obafemi Awolowo his favourite politician, praising his contributions to education and television in Nigeria. The veteran actor made the revelation during an appearance on Bae U’s ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’.
Edochie explained that Awolowo stood out because he clearly outlined his plans and funding strategies. According to him, Awolowo introduced television to Nigeria through Western Nigeria Television in 1959. He also recalled how the Eastern Region established its television service in 1960.
Beyond broadcasting, Edochie praised Awolowo’s free primary education programme across the Western Region. The actor regretted that Obafemi Awolowo never became Nigeria’s president despite his achievements.
During the conversation, Edochie also reflected on his acting journey and early stage performance. He recalled appearing in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice in 1962 at age 15.
That early performance reportedly attracted international attention and helped shape his remarkable entertainment career. Meanwhile, Edochie shared strong opinions about marriage and family leadership during the interview. He advised men against praying for situations where their wives would financially support them.
Edochie also argued that kneeling during marriage proposals amounts to conceding family leadership. His comments sparked reactions online, with viewers debating his traditional perspective on marriage.
