Inter Miami Five-Game Winless Run Continues After Toronto Defeat

Inter Miami’s five-game winless run continued after Toronto defeated Lionel Messi’s side 2-1 during Saturday’s MLS meeting in Miami. Before Toronto, Miami drew 2-2 against Philadelphia Union, ending a three-game losing streak across MLS and Leagues Cup competitions.

Earlier, Nashville crushed Inter Miami 4-1, while León eliminated Miami with a 2-1 victory during Leagues Cup competition recently. Monterrey started the difficult stretch by defeating Miami 4-0, exposing defensive problems during their Leagues Cup meeting earlier.

Despite Messi scoring against Toronto, Miami could not recover after Toronto struck twice during the second half of play. The Argentine forward also scored against Philadelphia, marking his first goal since his father Jorge Messi died earlier this month.

That emotional performance included an assist, but Philadelphia still secured a point through a 2-2 draw at home. Meanwhile, the latest defeat leaves Inter Miami searching for consistency despite remaining among the Eastern Conference’s leading teams currently.

Miami’s struggles have arrived during a demanding schedule featuring domestic league matches alongside Leagues Cup fixtures against strong opposition. However, the five-game winless run does not mean five consecutive defeats, because Philadelphia earned a valuable draw against Miami.

With Toronto claiming victory, Inter Miami now faces renewed pressure to rediscover winning form before their next important league fixtures. Messi and his teammates must quickly respond, as the club continues pursuing another successful MLS campaign under Guillermo Hoyos.
