Sandra Bullock Reveals She Grieved Bryan Randall Four Years Before His Death

Sandra Bullock has opened up about the death of her late partner, photographer Bryan Randall.

The actress revealed that she began grieving Randall years before his death from ALS in 2023.

Bullock made the comments during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast. The show is hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.

Bryan Randall’s ALS Battle

Randall died on August 5, 2023, at the age of 57. He had battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

He and Bullock had been together for eight years before his death. The couple reportedly began dating in 2015.

Bullock said Randall wanted to keep his illness private. She said her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, was the only person who knew at first.

“He asked me not to share. I know why he asked me not to,” Bullock said.

She admitted that keeping the diagnosis secret made her feel isolated.

“My sister was the only one who knew for a while,” Bullock explained. “At first I go, ‘Oh, I can handle that. I can be quiet.’”

Bullock Began Grieving Before His Death

Bullock said caring for Randall while raising her two young children during the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult.

She later told close friends, including Jennifer Aniston and Amanda, the wife of Bateman, about what was happening.

Bullock said Randall’s condition had already changed their relationship before he died.

“I think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed,” she said. “There was something that had shifted.”

The actress said Randall had been sick for at least half of their eight-year relationship.

“My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” she said. “I don’t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you’re just on this treadmill.”

Family Asked for Privacy

Following Randall’s death, his family said he had chosen to keep his ALS journey private.

They also thanked the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his illness.

The family asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieved Randall and came to terms with his death.

Bullock and Randall reportedly began dating after she hired him to photograph her son Louis’ fifth birthday party. They made their red-carpet debut later that year at the Our Brand Is Crisis premiere in Los Angeles.
