President Trump Shares Map Showing Strait of Hormuz as “New U.S. Territory”

President Trump Strait of Hormuz map controversy has intensified after President Trump posted an image labeling the strategic waterway “New U.S. Territory.” President Trump shared the map on Truth Social on Tuesday, August 18, without providing an explanation alongside the image.

The graphic highlights the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman, displaying the disputed waterway with prominent American colors. President Trump had previously threatened to declare the Strait of Hormuz a United States territory after defeating Iran militarily.

On August 14, President Trump first raised the possibility, later saying he believed American control over Hormuz would make sense. The latest President Trump Strait of Hormuz map follows his earlier claim that America has total control over the strategic waterway.

President Trump described the U.S. naval blockade as a “wall of steel” while asserting that Iran could not challenge American control. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies.

Iran has maintained that the waterway remains closed, while President Trump separately claimed Tuesday that Hormuz was open and operational. Conflicting claims emerged after an interim agreement expired without resolving the broader dispute between Washington and Tehran.

Iranian officials have demanded sanctions relief and other concessions before restoring normal passage through the strategic maritime chokepoint. President Trump also said Tuesday that no talks or scheduled discussions with Iran currently existed, further raising concerns about negotiations.

The latest development has intensified international attention because prolonged disruption could affect global energy markets and shipping costs. For now, President Trump’s map represents a provocative political statement rather than an internationally recognized transfer of sovereignty.
