Take-Two Posts $1.39 Billion Sales as ‘GTA 6’ Preorders Open

Take-Two Interactive recorded $1.39 billion in sales between April and June, as preorders opened for its highly anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto VI.

The strong result came during a key quarter for the video game publisher. Preorders for GTA 6 opened on June 25, ahead of its November 19 release.

Take-Two’s Biggest Contributors

Take-Two said it generated $1.39 billion in net bookings during the quarter. However, the figure was down 3% from the $1.42 billion recorded during the same period last year.

The company did not provide sales figures for individual games. It said the “largest contributors” included “‘NBA 2K,’ the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series, ‘Toon Blast,’ ‘Match Factory!,’ ‘Empires & Puzzles,’ the ‘Red Dead Redemption’ series, ‘Words With Friends,’ ‘Colour Block Jam,’ ‘WWE 2K,’ ‘Zynga Poker,’ and ‘Toy Blast.’”

The results also came as Take-Two prepared for the launch of GTA 6. The game is one of the most anticipated releases in the video game industry.

‘GTA 6’ Preorders Open

Rockstar Games opened preorders for GTA 6 on June 25. The standard edition costs $79.99.

Players can buy the standard edition digitally or as a physical copy. The physical version comes with a code in a box instead of a disc.

The “ultimate” edition costs $99.99. It includes “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects” of the game.

Take-Two Beats Revenue Forecast

Take-Two also reported a $43.4 million impairment charge during the quarter. The charge was linked to the “decision not to proceed with further development of an unannounced title in its pipeline from a third-party developer.”

Gross profit stood at $882.5 million.

The company also beat Wall Street’s revenue forecast. Analysts had expected a GAAP loss of 21 cents per share on $1.36 billion in revenue.

Take-Two reported a GAAP loss of 18 cents per share on $1.39 billion in net bookings.

Company Maintains 2027 Outlook

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the results showed the strength of the company’s game portfolio.

“Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels,” Zelnick said in a letter to shareholders.

The company maintained its Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion.

Zelnick also pointed to the upcoming GTA 6 launch and the company’s plans for future growth.

“Looking further ahead, we expect to sustain this new level of scale and generate strong cash flows, setting us on a path to deliver continued growth and long-term shareholder returns.”
