Veteran Nigerian singer Daddy Showkey has questioned the renewed feud between the Okoye brothers, saying he believes they may be using the public dispute to attract attention despite his past efforts to make peace between them.
The brothers — Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye, founders of the now-defunct music group Psquare have revived their public disagreement after Peter accused Jude of excluding him from some proceeds from their music catalogue, including a specific sum of $25,000.
Peter also claimed he is not a signatory to one of the bank accounts used to collect the group’s music royalties. Jude denied any wrongdoing, insisting that income from their music projects was shared equally among the three brothers.
Speaking in an interview with Yanga FM, Daddy Showkey said he had stepped in several times to help settle the family dispute.
“I have been part of this matter for years. They are young people. I saw them grow up in those days in Jos when they would come and play at my show. I saw them become the Psquare they are today,” he said.
“They are people that I would go to and make peace between them. I think this matter is over. They know where it is paining them. I do not like to go into their issues again because they are no longer children.”
Singer warns about family impact
Daddy Showkey said he thought the issue had been resolved but believes only the brothers can decide to end the conflict.
“Sometimes, I think fame affects people. Someone who has it would think you cannot talk to them again. They are both brothers. I do not care if they do not like what I would say,” he added.
“Irrespective of what they are thinking, they are siblings. Maybe you have made that mistake by allowing Jude to manage you. They should think of how to move forward.
“If they want peace, they will make peace. This thing will affect their children. Everyone would tell their children their part of the story.”
He also questioned why the disagreement had become public again.
“I feel they also use it for attention. Why are they bringing it up again?” he said.
