Marvel Casts Samara Weaving as Emma Frost in New ‘X-Men’ Film

Australian actress Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “The X-Men” reboot.

The role brings Weaving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. Audiences know her from films such as “Ready or Not,” “The Babysitter,” “Scream VI” and “Bill & Ted Face the Music.”

In Marvel comics, Emma Frost ranks among the franchise’s most popular mutants. She began as a villain before becoming a hero. Fans recognise the character for her powerful psychic abilities. As Marvel followers often say, “Telepathy is her jam.”

A representative for Weaving declined to comment on the casting. Marvel did not respond to requests for comment.

Marvel Pushes Ahead With X-Men Plans

Disney strengthened Marvel’s X-Men plans when it acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. That deal returned the X-Men film rights to Marvel and opened the door for the mutants to join the MCU.

During its Hall H presentation at Comic-Con, Marvel unveiled several major projects. The studio introduced Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and revealed that “Alien: Romulus” actor David Jonsson will become Wakanda’s new king in “Black Panther 3.”

A Major Addition to the Franchise

The casting arrives at a crucial time for Marvel. Recent releases such as “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” failed to meet box-office expectations.

Even so, the studio hopes to regain momentum with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Early reports suggest the film is already breaking records.

Jake Schreier will direct “The X-Men” after leading “Thunderbolts.” His appointment signals Marvel’s commitment to launching a new era for its mutant heroes.

Before the reboot reaches cinemas, several familiar X-Men stars will return in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and James Marsden are among the actors set to appear in the crossover film.

Weaving’s Recent Work

Most recently, Weaving appeared in “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” and “Over Your Dead Body.” Deadline first reported news of her casting as Emma Frost.
