P-Square reunion was only for optics, Mr P alleges in fresh feud with Rudeboy

Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has claimed that the widely celebrated 2021 reunion of P-Square was “fake,” saying he never wanted the music group to return despite reconciling with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy.

The claim comes amid a fresh public dispute between the former group members. It also follows Mr P’s recent apology over his comments about Nigerian languages.

Mr P says he is done keeping quiet

In a lengthy Instagram post, Mr P said he was tired of staying silent while his brother continued to criticise him in public.

“I am going to speak my truth today. I am sure most of you have seen this. That is typical of him, always throwing shade at me with every given opportunity. I take that in good faith, but as I said, at this point, I am done being Mr Nice Guy. It’s aura for aura.”

He also shared videos showing Rudeboy discussing their relationship and his role in the success of P-Square.

How the reconciliation started

Mr P said the process began on November 17, 2021, while he was returning to Lagos from Atlanta.

“On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, I was coming back from Atlanta. Thirty-five minutes before we started descending into Lagos, I got a message from my caretaker. In his words, he said, ‘Oga, abeg forgive oga Paul, he don come apologise to mama.’ The person he is referring to as mama is my wife, Lola.”

According to him, he later learned that Rudeboy had visited his home and apologised to his wife.

The viral reunion moment

Mr P said his wife encouraged him to take a step towards rebuilding their relationship.

“My wife advised me to go to Paul’s house and hug him because he had made the first move. So I went to meet Paul, and that moment of me walking up to him was the moment that went viral.”

The singer said the reunion was about restoring family ties and not reviving P-Square.

‘That reunion was fake’

Mr P insisted that the public reunion created the wrong impression.

“Most of you don’t know what happened to us, but today I’m going to say it because it has reached the maximum. Starting from November 17, 2021, the so-called reunion. That reunion was fake, and I will prove that to all of you watching.”

He said he made it clear to Rudeboy that he was not interested in bringing back the group.

“I said I am not angry, sad, or feeling bad. We were brothers before this whole music thing came. Right now, it’s the only thing bringing problems.”

Why he rejected a comeback

Mr P said he opposed plans to announce a P-Square reunion because he only wanted the family relationship restored.

According to him, there was no desire on his part to bring the music group back at the time. He maintained that his focus was on rebuilding the bond between the brothers rather than restarting P-Square.
