Afrobeats superstar Davido has surprised former Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) signee Mayorkun with a Tesla Cybertruck worth millions of naira, publicly declaring his affection for the singer years after their professional relationship ended.

The award-winning musician shared the gesture on his Instagram Story, posting a message alongside the luxury electric vehicle. “My gift to you. I love you #iammayorkun,” Davido wrote, before directing an associate to have the vehicle delivered the following day.

Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, acknowledged the gift on his own Instagram Story, responding: “Love 4L, OO1”.

The Tesla Cybertruck, known for its futuristic stainless-steel design, is one of the most sought-after electric vehicles in the world. Depending on the model and configuration, it retails in the United States for between $69,990 and $99,990, placing its value in the hundreds of millions of naira at current exchange rates.

Davido and Mayorkun share a history dating back to 2016, when the DMW boss discovered a cover video the singer had posted online. At the time, Mayorkun was working in a bank and preparing to leave his job.

Davido reached out the same day Mayorkun submitted his resignation letter, signed him to DMW and launched his music career with the hit single Eleko.

Over the next five years, Mayorkun became one of the label’s biggest success stories, releasing his debut album The Mayor of Lagos in 2018 and establishing himself as a leading Afrobeats act.

In 2021, he parted ways with DMW and later signed with Sony Music West Africa. Despite the split, the latest gift suggests that the bond between both artistes remains strong.

Mayorkun has continued to publicly acknowledge Davido’s impact on his career, while Davido has repeatedly shown support for his former signees beyond business relationships.
