“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan and “Harry Potter” actor Paapa Essiedu have joined more than 20 celebrities in a charity auction to raise money for students in Gaza.

The auction is organised by charity Phoenix Space. It starts on July 27 and will run for 10 days. The effort follows a UK government plan to help Gaza students travel to and study in the UK. However, the students must secure fully funded scholarships.

Coughlan and her “Derry Girls” co-star Siobhán McSweeney have donated a signed behind-the-scenes photograph. Essiedu is auctioning his personal copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Speaking about the campaign, Essiedu said: “I can’t imagine almost all universities being destroyed and the immense talent in every discipline wasted: no opportunities and no choice at all.”

He added: “What a beautiful thing if this book in some way can unlock the futures of these brilliant students, too.”

Other celebrities taking part include Brian Cox, Gary Lineker, Paloma Faith, Maxine Peake, Juliet Stevenson, Charlotte Church, Harriet Walter, Vanessa Redgrave and Janet Suzman.

Items up for auction include a signed Japan football shirt from Lineker and an “I Swear” production hoodie from Peake. Stevenson donated the first poetry book she owned. Church offered a place at her next wellness retreat. Walter contributed her personal script from Julius Caesar. Redgrave donated a necklace she wore in Long Day’s Journey Into Night. Suzman added a vintage Christian Lacroix brooch.

Phoenix Space said hundreds of Gaza students have received offers from UK universities. These include University College London, Imperial and Edinburgh. Many of the students still lack the funding needed to attend.
