The live-action “Naruto” movie has launched a worldwide casting search to find actors for its three lead roles: Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno.

Lionsgate is backing the adaptation of Masashi Kishimoto’s popular manga series. The casting search focuses on Team 7, while producers plan to cast supporting roles later.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Marvel’s “Shang-Chi” and will direct “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” is writing and directing the film.

Director Excited About Global Search

Cretton said he looks forward to bringing the beloved franchise to the big screen and finding actors to lead the project.

“Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the world, and it’s an honour to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time,” Cretton said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of ‘Naruto’ to life!”

Kishimoto Welcomes Hollywood Adaptation

Kishimoto described the project as a dream come true and praised Cretton’s involvement.

“Right now, miracles are happening to me, one after another. My work, ‘Naruto’, is truly, truly becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even greater miracle is that the film will be directed by the one and only Destin Daniel Cretton. I still cannot believe it!” he said.

“If so many miracles have already come together, then let us hope for even more. I am eagerly looking forward to the miraculous encounters that will bring us extraordinary and passionate actors! I cannot wait to meet my characters in the film!”

About the Film

Lionsgate announced the live-action “Naruto” movie in February 2024.

The manga has sold more than 250 million copies in over 60 countries and territories. The story follows Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who dreams of becoming his village’s protector and leader.

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu will produce the film for Arad Productions alongside Jeremy Latcham. Cretton and Jeyun Munford will also serve as producers through Hisako.
