U.S. President Donald Trump received a $10.71 million licensing fee from Amazon MGM Studios for the documentary Melania, according to his 2025 financial disclosure report.
The disclosure lists the payment as income tied to the documentary about First Lady Melania Trump. Amazon MGM Studios reportedly paid $40 million to acquire the film and spent another $35 million marketing it. The documentary earned about $16.6 million at the worldwide box office before its release on Prime Video.
The filing also shows Trump reported a $521,161 licensing payment linked to Melania Trump’s memoir from Skyhorse Publishing and $6 million in net proceeds from NFTs and other collectables associated with the First Lady.
Overall, Trump’s 2025 financial disclosure reported at least $2.2 billion in revenue, more than double the minimum $622 million disclosed a year earlier. The filing also lists investments in major media and technology companies, alongside income from his family’s cryptocurrency ventures.
Responding to questions about potential conflicts of interest, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said, “Neither the President nor his family has ever engaged or will ever engage in conflicts of interest.”
The Amazon deal has drawn criticism from Democrats, with Senator Elizabeth Warren describing the studio’s reported $40 million acquisition as “bribery in plain sight.” Amazon founder Jeff Bezos rejected that claim, saying, “just not correct” to suggest the deal was “a way of buying influence” with Trump, adding that acquiring the documentary “appears it was a good business decision.”
Amazon MGM Studios plans to release a companion docuseries for Melania later this year.
