Adekunle Gold’s journey from YBNL signee to one of Afropop’s most distinct voices has come full circle, and now, for the first time, he is stepping into the studio with the man who first believed in him. Adekunle has announced his first-ever official collaboration with rapper and music executive Olamide, years after parting ways with YBNL Nation.
On Monday, Adekunle Gold shared a post on Instagram revealing the upcoming track titled ‘Formation’, which is set for release on April 9.
“First time, me and @olamide… Formation. April 9,” Gold wrote.

For many fans, the announcement carries a sense of nostalgia. Adekunle Gold’s rise in the music industry is closely tied to Olamide’s label, YBNL, where he first found a major platform.
The singer first caught public attention in 2015 with ‘Sade’, a highlife-inspired cover of One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life’. The song quickly became a breakout hit and opened the door to bigger opportunities.
That same year, he was officially signed to YBNL and went on to release his debut album ‘Gold’, a project that introduced his distinct blend of highlife and Afro pop to a wider audience.
