The Mercy Johnson-Okojie, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Nollywood stars, has been appointed Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy by Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State. The announcement was made on Thursday, February 19, 2026, through an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. 

The appointment is part of the governor’s broader strategy to strengthen communication between the state government and residents, with a particular focus on ensuring citizens are better informed about government policies, programmes, and initiatives. 

Mercy Johnson-Okojie’s name is familiar to millions of Nigerians for her extensive body of work in Nollywood. With a career spanning nearly two decades, she has featured in over 200 films, earning numerous awards and nominations, including recognitions at prestigious platforms like the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). Beyond acting, she is also a producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. 

Her humanitarian efforts have been widely recognised, particularly through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, which focuses on social development causes such as women’s empowerment, child welfare, educational support and healthcare outreach. These initiatives have built her a reputation for supporting vulnerable communities and championing social responsibility.
