The lecture, scheduled for Monday, 2 February 2026, will mark the 94th Founders’ Day celebrations of the prestigious Lagos-based secondary school. Prof. Osinbajo, widely respected for his advocacy on education and economic development, is expected to share insights under the theme: “Endowment as Legacy: Building Generational Strength for Educational Institutions in Nigeria.”
The event is anticipated to draw prominent alumni, public officials, business leaders, and education enthusiasts.ICOBA’s ₦10 billion endowment fund represents a long-term investment in the school’s development.
According to organizers, the fund will support critical areas including infrastructure modernization, student facilities, science and technology programs, digital learning, sports, and the arts.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among Nigerian alumni associations to establish sustainable financial models for top schools, ensuring consistent quality and opportunities for future generations.
The Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association has a long history of giving back to the school that shaped them. Over the decades, ICOBA members have supported infrastructural projects, scholarships, and extracurricular programs. However, the creation of a dedicated endowment fund signals a strategic shift from ad-hoc donations to structured, long-term planning.
It also positions Igbobi College as a leading model for alumni-driven development in Nigeria’s secondary education sector.
In his role as keynote speaker, Prof. Osinbajo is expected to underscore the importance of institutional sustainability, educational philanthropy, and generational legacy. His participation adds weight to the lecture series, which ICOBA intends to make an annual fixture, inspiring alumni and other stakeholders to engage proactively in the school’s growth.
The launch of the endowment fund and the inaugural lecture also come at a time when education financing is a critical issue in Nigeria, particularly for historic schools with rich academic traditions. Initiatives like this not only secure resources for immediate needs but also ensure that institutions like Igbobi College continue to thrive and produce world-class graduates.
The event promises to celebrate the achievements of the school while charting a bold path for its future. By combining high-profile advocacy with sustainable funding strategies, Igbobi College is taking decisive steps to remain a beacon of excellence in Nigerian secondary education.
