Abubakar Yakubu Becomes AGN President, Pledges Unity and Professional Growth for Nollywood

In a historic ceremony today, Abubakar Yakubu officially assumed office as the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), marking a new chapter for the Nigerian film industry. The inauguration, held at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja, was attended by Nollywood veterans, rising actors, and media stakeholders eager to witness the leadership transition.

Yakubu, a seasoned actor and former AGN National Secretary, won the presidency in a closely contested December 2025 election, defeating his main contender, Rita Daniels. With over a decade of experience in the Guildโ€™s leadership, Yakubu brings institutional knowledge and a vision centered on inclusive governance, professional development, and welfare for all actors.

In his inaugural speech, Yakubu emphasized the importance of unity among Nollywood actors, promising to bridge gaps within the industry while fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.

โ€œMy administration will prioritize the growth of every actor, from veterans to emerging talents. Nollywood is our collective responsibility, and together, we will elevate its global reputation,โ€ Yakubu declared.

The new AGN president also outlined plans to strengthen professional standards, provide welfare support, and promote mentorship programs for younger actors. His pledge for inclusive leadership signals a commitment to ensuring all guild members, regardless of status or background, have a voice in shaping the industryโ€™s future.

Yakubuโ€™s inauguration comes after reports surrounding a past automobile accident were addressed by the Guild, emphasizing accountability and care for affected families. The incident did not deter members from expressing confidence in Yakubuโ€™s ability to lead AGN with integrity, transparency, and dedication.

Industry experts believe Yakubuโ€™s presidency could bring renewed focus on actor welfare, career development, and stronger representation both locally and internationally. Nollywood enthusiasts and media observers are optimistic that his tenure will help consolidate the Guildโ€™s influence while promoting Nigeriaโ€™s cinematic achievements on a global stage.

As Abubakar Yakubu takes the helm, Nollywood actors, fans, and stakeholders look forward to a period of collaboration, empowerment, and industry growth, hoping his leadership will inspire professionalism, inclusivity, and unity across Nigeriaโ€™s thriving film sector.
