The Aníkúlápó story first captivated Nigerians in 2022 with the release of the original film, Aníkúlápó. The movie quickly became a cultural talking point across Nigerians in Nigeria and in the diaspora with conversations around spirituality, greed, contentment, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.

Beyond its powerful themes, the film earned lots of praise for its breathtaking cinematography, beautiful storytelling, and relatable locations. Every visual frame felt intentional, drawing viewers deep into its mythical setting. Standout performances from Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, and Kunle Remi further elevated the film, with many viewers agreeing that the cast delivered unforgettable portrayals that left a lasting impression.

Following the film’s success, the film expanded in 2024 with the release of Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, a sequel series that deepened the story and broadened its narrative scope. This second installment served as a critical bridge, which set the stage for the next chapter in the saga.

With the release of Aníkúlápó: The Ghoul, it takes the story even further, returning audiences to a world where power is never free and immortality always comes with a price. As ancient forces resurface, the balance of power shifts, forcing characters to confront painful truths about love, loyalty, betrayal, greed, and destiny.

Kunle Afolayan has announced that the series features a stellar cast including Sola Sobowale, Gabriel Afolayan, Bimbo Ademoye, Adedimeji Lateef, Oyinda Molade, Aisha Lawal, Jide Kosoko, Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo), Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Joke Muyiwa, Femi Adebayo Salami, Tayo Faniran, Kie Kie, and several others. Together, they bring emotional depth and authenticity that remain rooted in African history and mythology.

This new chapter carries viewers from Oyo to distant foreign lands, where alliances are tested and survival becomes the ultimate currency. Kingship alone no longer guarantees safety every character must fight, choose, and sacrifice to earn their place. In this world, survival is the real crown.

Kunle Afolayan in the caption of the thriller released stated that the movie was filmed across Nigeria and Ghana, including the iconic KAP Film Village and Resort.

Afolayan also stated that the Ghana production unit was led by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, while post-production was handled by KAP Motion Pictures in partnership with Golden Effects Pictures.
