Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has weighed in on the tragic road accident involving heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, using the incident to spotlight Nigeria’s long-standing road safety and transportation challenges.
In a video shared online, VeryDarkMan opened by expressing his condolences to Anthony Joshua, describing the emotional weight the boxer must be carrying after reportedly losing two close associates in the accident. According to him, the situation is particularly heartbreaking because Anthony Joshua had brought his friends to Nigeria to enjoy the Christmas season in his homeland, only for the visit to end in tragedy.
VeryDarkMan spoke extensively about the mental and emotional toll such an experience could have on the international boxing star, noting that surviving such a devastating incident while losing loved ones can leave deep psychological scars.
Beyond the personal loss, the activist used the moment to address what he described as the systemic failure of Nigeria’s road safety structure. He lamented that his repeated warnings about stationary trucks parked on highways have consistently been ignored by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and relevant government agencies.
According to VeryDarkMan, the reason the issue is gaining national attention now is because Anthony Joshua is a global figure, and the eyes of international bodies are currently on Nigeria. He pointed out that this global spotlight may have contributed to the swift reactions from prominent Nigerians and even a press statement reportedly issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning the accident.
He stressed that similar accidents occur daily across Nigeria, often involving trucks driven by unlicensed or poorly trained drivers, leading to the loss of countless lives without accountability or meaningful government intervention.
Drawing comparisons, VeryDarkMan referenced his visit to Germany, where he observed that transportation of goods is governed by strict laws and regulations. He explained that in such countries, companies that violate transport safety rules face severe penalties, including shutdowns by the government.
In contrast, he criticized Nigeria for lacking effective and enforceable transportation laws, describing the system as weak and poorly regulated. He concluded by calling on the government to treat road safety as a national emergency, not only when high-profile individuals are involved, but for the sake of everyday Nigerians whose lives are lost silently on the roads.
The video has since ignited conversations online, with many Nigerians echoing his concerns and calling for urgent reforms in the country’s road safety and transportation policies.
